1. among-

I felt joyful among my friends at the class reunion dinner.

Among all the students, they decided to donate their classroom funds to the ASPCA in their town.

.2. along-

The bicycle path wraps along the river bank and through the forest of redwoods.

He decided to go along with his friend's idea of investing 20% of his salary.

3. flung-

The boys flung mud balls at their friends as a joke and to have fun making a mess

His idea of walking from southern to northern California in 30 days was considered "far flung" until he actually succeeded.

4. vying-

When I come home from work, all my cats try vying for my attention by meowing as loud as they can.

All vying swimmers are registering with the coach.

5. slang

"Dressed to the nines" is an  old slang expression for dressing beautifully and full of class.

"He's the cat's pajamas" is also an old slang expression for being handsome.

6.sprung

Spring has sprung and the flowers are blooming throughout the garden.

When the alarm clock rang at 6:00 am, the boy sprung into action to begin his paper delivery.

7. fang

In snakes a fang associated with controlling the venom gland to strike their pray.

The fang is a long, pointed tooth that mammals use for biting and tearing flesh.

8. oblong-

The oval-oblong shaped glass table is appropriate for the mid-century living room decoration.

The watermelons were not traditionally oblong but almost mysteriously long like cucumbers.

9. elongate

The artist Modigliani was known for elongated figures in his portraits. The necks of the women in his paintings had a swan like appearance.

Wearing dresses with stripes helps to elongate a person's figure.

10.dung

Dung refers to animal poop versus human feces.

Cow dung "chips" are used as a "dung throwing contest" especially during rodeo week.

A Simile is a literary device that compares two things in an interesting and vivid way. Words such as "like" and "as' are used to compare two ideas. 1. He was as quiet as a mouse As he entered his father's hospital room, he was as quiet as a mouse. 2. smelling like a rose After winning the lawsuit, she walked out the court house smelling like a rose and waving her hands in the air with joy. 3.
