Wilie E. Coyote and the Road Runner

Wilie E. Coyote and  Road Runner are a duo of cartoon characters from the Looney Tunes and

Merrie Melodies series of animated cartoons, first appearing in l949 in the cartoon short called

"Fast and Furry-ous. In each episode, the cunning and devious and constantly hungry coyote

repeatedly attempts to catch and subsequently eat the Road Runner, but is successful in catching

the Road Runner (but not eating him) on only extremely rare occasions.

1. The "E" in Wilie E. Coyote stands for "Ethelbert.

2.What are the rules of Wilie E. Coyote and the Road Runner?

The Road Runner cannot harm the Coyote except by going "meep, meep".  No outside force can

harm the Coyote- only his own ineptitude or the failure of Acme products.

3. Does the Road Runner say Meep or beep? Although commonly quoted as "meep meep", the

current owner of all trademarks lists "beep, beet" as the Road Runner's sound along with

"meep meep".

4.How many times has coyote ever caught the Road Runner ? The coyote caught the Road

Runner? Coyote caught the Roadrunner and regretted it. And with a twist, the Roadrunner

was able to escape.

5. Why does the coyote chase the Road Runner? The writer Chuck Jones based the cartoons on

a book by Mark Twain called "Roughing it".  In the story Twain noted that coyotes are starving

and hungry and would chase a roadrunner.

6. What is Wilie. E's biggest enemy isn't the Road Runner?  His real enemy is gravity, since if

you'll notice he doesn't start falling most times until he runs off the cliff and actually notices that

he's standing on thin air.

7. Coyotes do eat roadrunners.  In real life coyotes aren't too picky about what they eat, and will

go after pretty much anything they can consider as prey.  They do take after roadrunners but

unlike the cartoon, don't have access to giant rockets or other devices they just pounce on them

 with their front paws.

8. Chuck Jones the creator of the characters put himself in the coyote in the fact that he was a

little clumsy with DIY tools at home also he wanted to add a little comedy to Mark Twain's influence.

9.Jones also suspended reality by making the coyote bipedal. Additionally, he made the coyote

ragged but proud, he stands tall with a strong face, but his ears "look a little broken".

To make him look hungry the coyote has a little pot belly and over the years Jones

drew one knee higher than the other one and one extra toenail to make him look unkempt.

Roadrunner facts: (actual birds)

10. Roadrunners are members of the cuckoo bird family but look nothing like their relatives

except for the"coo" sound they make.

-They are primarily terrestrial, but are able to fly for short bursts even though they prefer to run

sometimes at a recorded speed of 15 mph.

-They can live about 7-8 years in the wild and are found ambling along the ground looking

for prey.  They can also sprint into action when they see a fast moving lizard or insect.

-There are two species of roadrunner- the greater roadrunner and the lesser roadrunner. The

larger of the two is about two feet long , black or brown with white speckled feathers and a

shaggy crest.

The lesser roadrunner is slightly smaller and has lighter tan coloring.  Both species have long tails

that provide balance.

The species don't overlap.  The greater roadrunner is found throughout the southwestern U.S.

and parts of Mexico the lesser roadrunner is found south to western portions of Mexico and

Central America.

-They are omnivores that eat anything they find on the ground-including rattlesnakes and

venomous prey.  Their primary diet includes scorpions, frogs, reptiles, small mammals,

birds, and eggs.

=
-They can team up with another roadrunner and kill a rattlesnake by pecking its head until it dies.

-They also have a technique of killing rodents by crushing them against rocks before swallowing

it.

-About 10% of their diet is composed of fruits, seeds and plants.
